International day of the older persons is a day set aside to celebrate the older persons who have made tremendous impact in our various communities and the society at large. It is an occasion to create awareness to the plight of the elderly and a clarion call to allall communities to run programmes and work or push for policies that will enable older persons to live in an environment that enhances their capabilities, fosters their independence, and provide them with adequate support and care as they age.
The executive governor of Lagos state was fully represented by his deputy governor Mrs Idiat Olurenti Adebule who stated that " older persons are the pride of any society or nation. Not only that, they have worked tirelessly to build a nation we can be proud of, but they remain quality partners in progress as embodiment of our value and reservoir of wisdom that we can tap from for positive development and progress."
The Theme for this year celebration "Stepping into the future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participation of older Persons in the Society" underscore the fact that the older persons are not just the reservoir of wisdom and experience; they are also the conscience of the nation. The theme calls for urgent need to tap into the experience and wisdom of the older perdlsons for us to move forward as a State and nation in general.
The administration of His Excellency, Governor Akinwumi Am bode ran an inclusive government and place priority on the well being of the older persons in the state.
